Downstairs Tonight: Tiki Takeover
Grab your favorite Hawaiian shirt and join us Downstairs at the Esquire Tavern for an evening of authentic tiki culture. Festivities begin at 10pm, and we’re excited to host two experts in all things escapist and tiki-themed: Jeff "Beachbum" Berry, famed tiki culture historian; and Zan Kong, Jamaican rum brand ambassador.
A lover of ornate tiki drinks and faux-Polynesian decor since childhood, Berry is the owner and operator of Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29 restaurant in New Orleans’ French Quarter. He’s credited with resurrecting and rediscovering lost tiki cocktail recipes from the 1930s, and has published seven books on the subject.
Kong, a Canadian native of Chinese-Jamaican descent, works as the Export Sales Manager for Worthy Park in Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica. 100% Jamaican-owned and -operated since 1670, Worthy Park is one of the island country’s oldest distilleries, and produces dozens of fine spirits, from classic rums to quadruple-distilled vodkas, and estate digestifs.
