San Antonio’s No. 1 Best Bar: The Esquire Tavern
From a classic Manhattan or Pimm’s cup to an inventive mix of shiitake mushroom shrub and rancio wine, you can get it at The Esquire Tavern downtown. Except for a five-year hiatus, The Esquire has carried the torch as a popular San Antonio landmark for more than eight decades.
Classic and seasonal cocktails are highlights of the menu, which also includes a proper craft beer selection and a roster of elevated entrees and bar snacks. All of this adds up to a place that has received two James Beard Award nominations for the nation’s Outstanding Bar Program.
The famously long bar is still there, booths still line up like sentries as you enter, and the patio still has a killer River Walk view, despite the construction going on around it. The construction’s temporary; the bar seems destined to stay great
